If you like fishing, crabbing, boating and small-town tranquility, you’ll likely love Everglades City.
For starters, Everglades City, voted one of the best small towns in the US, is known as the Stone Crab Capital of the World. But there’s much more. This area boasts plentiful red fish, snook, triple tail, trout, lemon shark and more.
Boating anyone? Fishing? Paddling?
Head straight out to the Gulf without bridges.
Everglades City is the best place to rent canoes and kayaks, hook up with a guided paddling tour, and explore. Head out to the 10,000 islands, as you are its gateway. Occupied by Native Americans for 1000’s of years, the islands (which actually only number in the hundreds) are a sportsman’s dream. Being at one end of the Wilderness Waterway, you can take the Everglades back-county route to Flamingo.
Everglades City is a great place base for explorations into Big Cypress National Preserve, Everglades National Park and Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve.
With its tiny airport, Everglades Airpark located a mile southwest of the Everglades City central business district, you can fly in from Ft Lauderdale, Miami or Orlando…or easily drive.
Once here, book a float plane tour for a birds-eye view of the 10,000 islands before navigating them.
